MEET THE TEAM!

Our team is growing in October, check back soon to see the new full time veterinary surgeons and Veterinary nurses that are joining our team!

Rory Thomson BVMS MRCVS, Veterinary Surgeon and company director

Rory started his career at Roker Park Veterinary Centre after qualifying from Glasgow Vet School in 2009. After 2 years he moved to a corporate practice for a year and hated every minute of it. He decided he wanted to go back to working for a small practice where he could get to know the patients and have more clinical and financial freedom to provide the best care for the patients without strict financial targets to hit so he helped establish St Clair Veterinary Care in Blyth, Northumberland. After 8 years in Northumberland, Rory has come home to Roker Park Vets as the owner, bringing with him a wealth of industry knowledge that enables him to ensure clients pets are treated as individuals at a fair price.

He’s a family man with a supportive family; He saved Whitburn Library from closure so his children can continue to use it. Rory is also an important volunteer Veterinary Marine Mammal medic for the British Divers Marine Life Rescue charity, this involves active involvement with the Tynemouth Seal Hospital and being on call to assist with any marine mammal that requires help –usually seals but he’s been trained to assist with a stranded whale or dolphin should it be needed! At home Rory also has a crazy cross breed dog called Fanta and 3 guinea pigs called Star, Lily and Sophia.

Rachel Elliot BVMS MRCVS, Veterinary Surgeon

Introducing Rachel, a dedicated veterinary surgeon originating from the vibrant city of Glasgow, where she qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2016. As a child, she found herself enchanted by the vet in Jurassic Park, igniting an early dream of tending to dinosaurs. Alas, she soon understood that dinosaurs were no longer an option, but her love for animals remained unflinching. Rachel then shifted her focus to our cuddly companions, cats and dogs, developing a particular interest in internal medicine.

Rachel’s true passion lies in comprehending the unique needs of each pet and their owners. She takes pride in forming lasting bonds with her patients, understanding their quirks, needs, and personalities over the years. At home, her love for animals is equally evident. She shares her life with a spirited working cocker spaniel named Pickle and three rescue cats with delightful names – Haribo, Haggis, and Domino’s Pizza.

In addition to her passion for animals, Rachel shares her life with her partner, Richard, a pilot. She finds joy in taking to the skies in vintage planes, feeling the wind on her face and looking at the world from a bird’s perspective. It’s a life filled with love, fur, and a whole lot of adventure.
